I can't offer you any recommendations about what to do but can offer my support to you. We went through this exactly one year ago when our older girl tore her cruciate. The most difficult part of the whole ordeal was trying to decide what option to pick. With the support of others who "had been there" we were finally able to make a decision and, one year later, Sascha is bounding about in the snow. Give Maggie a hug from us; give yourself a hug too! It will work out for the best, whatever you decide.
RichardAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2714202870427585969.post-13065054080001648152008-12-15T07:40:00.000-07:002008-12-15T07:40:00.000-07:00What a crappy decision to have to make...keep us p...What a crappy decision to have to make...keep us posted how things go, remember you have a ton of cheer leaders who will support you either way!

JenileeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2714202870427585969.post-39372802901816394692008-12-15T06:37:00.000-07:002008-12-15T06:37:00.000-07:00Oh my my! I have seen a three legged dog run like the dickens though!! She will do just fine missing a toe in agility - she bears less weight on the outermost toe, and even if you do surgery on that toe, my professional opinion (I'm a vet) is that it will be a constant source of arthritis in the future.

I know of one doberman currently competing with only 3 toes on her front foot - she broke her toe as a pup and had it amputated. she even finished her championship.

http://bakaridobes.westhost.com/agility.htm

you can see her missing toe clearly in the second photo down.doberkimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18249852495030596575noreply@blogger.com
